A police driver in Batticaloa has been suspended after a medical test confirmed cannabis use following a police jeep and motorcycle collision.
A Batticaloa police driver has been suspended after a medical examination confirmed that he had consumed cannabis while driving a police jeep involved in a serious accident.
The collision occurred on Monday night (24) near the Batticaloa Prison. Officers from the Batticaloa Headquarters Police Station were on patrol when their jeep collided with a motorcycle.
The motorcyclist suffered severe injuries, including a broken leg, and was admitted to the Batticaloa Teaching Hospital for treatment.
Police arrested the Batticaloa police driver after the crash and subjected him to a medical examination. Officers then produced him before court on Tuesday (25).
The magistrate ordered his release on personal bail of Rs. 100,000.
However, the medical report later submitted to police confirmed that the driver had consumed cannabis.
Following the investigation findings, Police Headquarters ordered the Batticaloa police driver’s immediate suspension from service on Wednesday (26), according to the Batticaloa Headquarters Police.
The suspension followed the medical findings and investigation.
