Rumesh Tharanga reaches the world No. 1 ranking as the Foundation of Goodness celebrates its role in supporting his remarkable javelin journey.
The Foundation of Goodness is celebrating Rumesh Tharanga and his sensational journey to becoming a world-class athlete, achieving the No. 1 global ranking in an individual sport.
The Foundation describes the achievement as unprecedented in Sri Lankan history and a proud moment for the nation.
However, many may not know about Rumesh and his family’s association with the Foundation of Goodness over the past year.
After identifying his vision and potential, the Foundation supported his needs through sponsorship and investment. The goal was to help him realise the ambitious target set by himself and his coach, Tony Prasanna.
His father, Thushara Pathirage, has also been part of that journey.
Rumesh is now well on his way along that roadmap, showcasing the extraordinary talent of one athlete while placing Sri Lanka at the very top of the world stage in javelin.
His achievements have also brought immense joy and inspiration to young athletes. His journey shows hopeful sportsmen and women that they, too, can aspire to sporting greatness despite the challenges they face.
Rumesh Tharanga now works with the Foundation of Goodness to nurture rural sporting talent as a Goodness Ambassador.
His journey also recalls the 10 powerful two-letter words in which Rumesh believed:
“If it is to be, it is up to me!”
