Sri Lanka Police reject corruption allegations over the body camera tender, saying procurement remains open and no contract has been awarded.
COLOMBO – Police Headquarters has strongly rejected allegations of corruption surrounding the procurement process for body-worn cameras for the Sri Lanka Police, describing statements made by Janatha Aragala Peramuna convener Wasantha Mudalige as baseless and untrue.
Addressing the controversy, police said a special report was obtained from the Director of the Police Supply Division following statements made in the media.
According to the report, the procurement plan was formulated by a special 15-member gazetted committee appointed under the directives of the Inspector General of Police (IGP). The committee included a Senior Deputy Inspector General, an accountant, and several other officials.
The committee unanimously recommended the purchase of 500 body-worn cameras and 70 associated docking stations to meet current police operational requirements.
Police emphasised that the procurement process is being conducted transparently and competitively, in accordance with government guidelines, National Procurement Commission directives, and established legal procedures.
The Bid Evaluation Committee has reviewed both direct purchase and leasing arrangements, with the relevant technical specifications and conditions formulated accordingly.
To encourage broad competition, public notices were published through newspaper advertisements.
Police also stated that bid submission deadlines were extended on several occasions after written notifications were sent to all participating entities, ensuring that no bidder was given an unfair advantage.
Authorities further clarified that the evaluation process remains ongoing and that no institution has yet been selected or awarded a contract.
Police said that any party with concerns about the fairness or accuracy of the procurement process is free to lodge an official complaint with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption.
