A 54-year-old fugitive wanted under an Interpol Red Notice issued at India’s request has been arrested during a police operation in Wadduwa.
COLOMBO – Sri Lankan law enforcement authorities have arrested a fugitive wanted under an Interpol Red Notice following a targeted operation in the coastal town of Wadduwa.
The 54-year-old suspect, whose identity has not been publicly disclosed pending formal legal proceedings, was taken into custody during an early-morning operation conducted by officers from the Mount Lavinia Divisional Crime Investigation Bureau.
According to police, the arrest followed a coordinated intelligence operation targeting individuals wanted under international warrants.
Investigators said the suspect had previously managed to escape custody in both Sri Lanka and India.
His alleged ability to cross jurisdictions and evade law enforcement authorities resulted in Indian authorities seeking an Interpol Red Notice.
Sri Lankan police confirmed that preliminary investigations have been conducted and formal legal procedures are now underway.
Authorities are expected to coordinate with their Indian counterparts through the relevant diplomatic and judicial channels regarding possible extradition.
Further developments are expected as the legal process continues.
