A police sergeant has been suspended after allegedly demanding raw chicken as a bribe to secure bail for a detained suspect.
COLOMBO – In what can only be described as a landmark case of poultry corruption, the Malwathu Hiripitiya Police Station has officially suspended a police sergeant following allegations that he traded freedom for foul play or rather, fowl meat.
According to internal investigations, the enterprising law enforcement officer reportedly decided that the standard currency of bribery was far too mainstream.
Instead of cash, he allegedly demanded the equivalent value in raw chicken meat to secure police bail for a detained suspect.
The plot hatched when a video capturing the negotiations circulated widely across social media platforms, turning a routine desk duty into a viral culinary tragedy.
Prompted by the public uproar, senior officials under the Gampaha Assistant Superintendent of Police launched a swift investigation.
Authorities confirmed that the sergeant has been suspended with immediate effect pending further inquiries led by the Senior Superintendent of Police for the Gampaha Division.
Legal observers may be accustomed to bribery involving envelopes of cash, but this time a lawman’s career appears to have been completely deep-fried over a side of drumsticks.
