Colombo, September 24 — In a significant political development, President Anura Kumara Dissanayake is set to appoint a temporary cabinet today, marking a new phase in the country’s governance. Reports indicate that four ministers will be appointed, with a total of 15 ministerial positions being distributed among them.
According to unofficial sources, the president is expected to retain key ministries including tourism, defense, finance, justice, industry, and investment promotion. This consolidation of power in crucial sectors is seen as an effort to stabilize the government amid ongoing economic challenges.
Newly designated Prime Minister Harini Amarasuriya is poised to take on several significant portfolios, including Minister of Foreign Affairs, Education, and Media. Her appointment is anticipated to bring fresh perspectives to these vital ministries, especially in the realms of education and international relations.
In addition to Amarasuriya, two other key figures, Mr. Vijitha Herath and Mr. Lakshman Nipuna Arachchi, are expected to join the cabinet as ministers, though specific portfolios for their positions have yet to be confirmed.
This cabinet formation follows a period of political uncertainty and is seen as a crucial step toward implementing necessary reforms in governance and addressing the pressing economic issues facing the nation. Observers are keenly watching how this new leadership will navigate the challenges ahead and work towards stabilizing Sri Lanka’s economy.
As the political landscape evolves, the public and analysts alike are hopeful that this temporary cabinet will lay the groundwork for more permanent solutions to the country’s ongoing crises.
Should bowl a googly by appointing a national cabinet. That would hv minimized opposition effects & give President some time to play his cards. He should understand that he has minority backing only!
