Two power plants in Russia have reportedly caught fire following a series of drone attacks launched by Ukraine, marking one of the most extensive strikes in the ongoing conflict between the two nations. Russia’s Defense Ministry confirmed that Ukraine had deployed over 158 drones targeting Moscow and 15 other locations across the country.
While the Russian Ministry of Defense claimed that all of these drones were intercepted and destroyed, Moscow’s mayor reported that a fire broke out in a “technical room” of an oil refinery within the city, suggesting that some attacks may have penetrated the defenses. At least 11 drones were specifically aimed at Moscow and its surrounding areas, according to the mayor.
In addition, large explosions were heard near a power plant located approximately 120 kilometers from the Russian capital. The local governor acknowledged that a fire had been extinguished following an attack in the area, though he did not provide further details.
Another power plant in the Moscow region was also targeted by drones, though no damage was officially reported. Despite this, videos circulating on social media appear to show explosions and fires at all three sites affected by the attacks.
As of now, Ukraine has not issued any official statements regarding these incidents, leaving the extent of their involvement and intentions unclear. The attacks have escalated tensions further, adding to the volatility of the ongoing conflict.
