Kurunegala – In a bold statement, Namal Karunaratne, leader of the All Ceylon Agrarian Federation, declared that there will be no compromises when it comes to prosecuting those who have stolen or destroyed public property. Speaking at a press conference held at the Janatha Vimukti Peramuna (JVP) office in Kurunegala District, Karunaratne emphasized that the law would be enforced unconditionally.
“We do not currently have any deals with anyone. The law will be applied to those who have looted public resources,” Karunaratne said. He confirmed that a formal investigation is already underway and that multiple files of evidence are being finalized for legal action. “A few more details are being added, but we are moving quickly to take the necessary legal measures,” he added.
He stressed that audits have been conducted and that there is no ambiguity about the government’s intention to hold the guilty accountable. “There are no conditions, no second thoughts. We are doing this,” Karunaratne asserted, promising that justice would be served for those responsible for vandalism, theft, and destruction of public property.
Karunaratne also expressed his gratitude to the farmers, acknowledging their significant role in the success of the National People’s Force. However, he reminded everyone that the struggle for justice is far from over. “This victory is not over yet,” he said, urging continued unity and determination from the farming community.
He went on to explain the relentless efforts made by the farmers and the National People’s Force in addressing the challenges faced by the agricultural sector. “We intervened in various agitations, ministries were raided, demonstrations were held, police were involved, and legal cases are ongoing,” Karunaratne explained. He reaffirmed the commitment to stand up for farmers in their time of need.
“We now have the ability to intervene as part of the government. Through our struggles, we managed to elect a president, but we haven’t taken parliamentary power yet. Our next goal is to secure the support of the entire farming community moving forward,” Karunaratne concluded.
