A shocking late-night incident in Mount Lavinia saw a foreign national allegedly attack civilians and police, triggering public panic and raising fresh concerns about safety, law enforcement response, and public disorder.
A Ukrainian woman has been remanded in custody until April 22 after allegedly attacking individuals and obstructing police duties during a disturbing incident in Mount Lavinia.
The incident took place in front of a restaurant in Mount Lavinia on the night of April 12. According to reports, the foreign national, suspected to be under the influence of alcohol, was seen behaving aggressively and violently toward a group of men, women, and youths present at the location.
Eyewitness video footage captured by bystanders shows the woman launching repeated attacks on those nearby, creating a chaotic and tense environment that quickly drew public attention.
During the confrontation, she also reportedly assaulted a police officer who attempted to bring the situation under control. Despite sustained efforts by members of the public and responding officers, she continued to act in an uncontrollable manner for nearly 30 minutes.
The situation was eventually brought under control when police officers on night patrol managed to arrest her at the scene, preventing further escalation.
According to the police spokesperson, the suspect has been residing in Sri Lanka for approximately 12 years. She was later produced before court and remanded on multiple charges, including assault, robbery, and obstruction of police duties.
Authorities also confirmed that a Sri Lankan woman who was injured during the incident has been directed for medical treatment following the attack.
Mount Lavinia Police have launched further investigations into the incident as authorities work to determine the full sequence of events and any additional legal implications.
