
Colombo, Sri Lanka – Despite fluctuations in the formula price between January and March 2025, the market prices of octane 92 petrol and auto diesel have remained unchanged since December 2024, at Rs. 309 and Rs. 286 per liter, respectively.
According to PublicFinance.lk, the formula price of octane 92 petrol rose from Rs. 298.85 in January to Rs. 310.14 in March, marking an overall increase of Rs. 11.29 per liter.
As a result, in January, the formula price was Rs. 10.15 lower than the market price, but by March, it had exceeded the market price by Rs. 1.14.
Meanwhile, the formula price of auto diesel dropped from Rs. 288.14 in February to Rs. 281.84 in March, while the market price remained unchanged at Rs. 286 per liter. This resulted in a shift from being Rs. 2.14 below the formula price to Rs. 4.16 above it.
The government has not yet provided an explanation for maintaining stable market prices, despite changes in the pricing formula.
