Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa unleashed a scathing attack on the ruling government, accusing them of running a “government of lies, fraud, and delusion” while warning that Sri Lanka has fallen into the deadly grip of organized crime and gangsterism. Speaking at a fiery rally in Homagama, Premadasa urged the public to take a critical look at the false promises made during the presidential and general elections before casting their votes.
“The so-called joint venture with America is nothing but a lie!” Premadasa thundered, dismissing the government’s recent claims as mere propaganda spun by the NPP-led administration. “There was no joint statement. It’s all fabricated to deceive the people once again.”
Warning that society has now been overtaken by underworld criminals, he described a country where bullets fly freely and even children are gunned down in broad daylight. “We have descended into jungle law,” he said. “The rule of law is dead under this president.”
Premadasa outlined a plan to establish civil and community defense committees across every village, empowering citizens to work alongside police and security forces in reclaiming the streets from gangsters and killers. “A new people-centered approach is needed. The old ways are failing. We must fight organized crime with the organized strength of our people.”
He accused the government of breaking every major promise it made: reducing the cost of living, cutting VAT on essentials, slashing electricity bills, lowering fuel prices, providing fertilizer subsidies, and giving jobs to unemployed graduates. “None of it has happened. Every single promise has been shattered.”
Mocking recent claims that the government had influenced the US to suspend a Trump-era tax, Premadasa said even that turned out to be a fabrication. “The only statement that was issued was one the JVP government wrote for themselves!” he scoffed.
As elections loom, Premadasa vowed that even if funds are denied by a biased presidency, the Samagi Jana Balawegaya will still outperform expectations at the local government level. “We don’t need their crumbs. We will deliver a service that exceeds the dreams of the people!”
Premadasa’s speech signals a new and aggressive phase in the opposition’s strategy as the nation heads toward another critical electoral showdown.
