In a fiery and brutally honest commentary, prominent academic Professor Nirmal Ranjith Dewasiri has unleashed a scathing critique of Sri Lanka’s current government, claiming that the ruling party is so inexperienced, it doesn’t even know how to function let alone engage in corruption.
Speaking during a public discussion, Professor Dewasiri didn’t hold back, arguing that the real reason campaign promises remain unfulfilled after elections is because of the hard realities of governance, not necessarily malicious intent. But this time, he says, the situation is worse.
“This government was taken over by a group who have no experience whatsoever,” he said. “They don’t even know how to talk or conduct themselves in office.”
Taking the critique a step further, he boldly added, “They don’t even understand how the system works. Even if they wanted to steal, they wouldn’t know how because the people who steal are the ones who understand the system well.”
His blunt remarks have sparked heated reactions on social media, with many debating whether his comments were an indictment of political naivety, an exposé on systemic corruption, or both.
The professor’s remarks reflect growing frustration among the public as the administration struggles to deliver on promises, amid allegations of incompetence and poor communication.
His statement adds fuel to the ongoing debate over whether idealism without experience can truly survive in Sri Lankan politics or if it simply leads to chaos wrapped in good intentions.
