Minister Wasantha Samarasinghe has issued a legal demand to Samagi Jana Balawegaya MP Rohana Bandara, seeking a staggering Rs. 500 million in compensation for alleged defamation.
The move comes in response to a statement made by the opposition MP at an election rally, where he claimed that Minister Samarasinghe had purchased a house valued at approximately Rs. 50 million. According to the minister, this accusation has severely tarnished his public image.
In the letter of demand, Minister Samarasinghe insists that the damages must be paid within 14 days. If MP Bandara fails to comply, the minister warns that he will initiate legal proceedings to recover the full amount through court action.
The explosive allegation and high-stakes demand have ignited political tensions ahead of the elections, with observers questioning whether this clash signals deeper fractures between key players in Sri Lanka’s political landscape.
