In a shocking claim made on the courthouse steps, notorious underworld figure Nadun Chinthaka, better known as Harak Kata alleged that former Public Security Minister Tiran Alles and suspended Inspector General of Police Deshabandu Tennakoon demanded a staggering Rs. 300 million from him.
Speaking to reporters after appearing in court today, Harak Kata claimed that his continued detention in Tangalle prison is directly linked to his refusal to pay the full amount.
“They asked me for Rs. 300 million. Only Rs. 10 million has been spent so far. That’s why I’m still in Tangalle,” he said, suggesting that his incarceration is being manipulated as part of a pay-to-play scheme involving top-level law enforcement and political figures.
The jaw-dropping statement has sent shockwaves through both political and legal circles, raising serious questions about corruption at the highest levels of Sri Lanka’s public security sector.
As investigations continue, Harak Kata’s public allegation has thrown a harsh spotlight on those once tasked with upholding justice now accused of demanding bribes from the very criminals they were meant to prosecute.
