The long-whispered mystery surrounding the gold hoards collected by the LTTE has once again ignited political controversy this time with fiery allegations and supposed evidence implicating former President Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Following the military defeat of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), the gold deposited by Tamil civilians in “LTTE banks” during the war years was seized by the Sri Lankan military. But what happened next has fueled years of speculation and suspicion.
Some critics have accused the Rajapaksa family of personally profiting from the seized gold, claiming that the treasure never made its way into public records or state coffers.
Now, Pivithuru Hela Urumaya leader and attorney Udaya Gammanpila has reignited the debate with what he claims is a detailed expose complete with dates and documentation on his YouTube show “Sathiye Vitthi with Udaya.”
In the episode, Gammanpila not only tackled the LTTE gold saga, but also dropped bombshells on several other politically charged topics: including alleged ties between the NPP (Compass) and a tragic suicide in Kotahena, and claims about the President using a private jet.
The explosive claims are already stirring the political pot, with Rajapaksa allies remaining silent and critics demanding accountability.
As pressure mounts, questions remain: Where did the LTTE gold really go and who got rich from it?
