Former MP Patali Champika Ranawaka claims that the companies that funded President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s recent visit to China are now lobbying for tax concessions in return for their “support.”
Speaking on the “Salakuna” program aired on Hiru TV, Ranawaka stated that these backdoor requests for tax relief have raised red flags with the International Monetary Fund (IMF), contributing to the delay in releasing Sri Lanka’s next financial installment.
Ranawaka further noted that President Dissanayake’s latest diplomatic visit to Vietnam involved a return trip on a private jet—raising more questions about who funded the travel and what deals may be brewing behind the scenes.
He pointedly remarked that no company or individual sponsors such high-level foreign visits for free, warning that any favors received now will likely be paid back at “double or triple the cost” through national concessions.
As public suspicion grows, Ranawaka hinted that Sri Lankans will soon see exactly what kind of tax breaks are being traded and at whose expense.
