Former Member of Parliament Imtiaz Baqir Marker has formally declined a request by Samagi Jana Balawegaya (SJB) leader Sajith Premadasa to resume his role as Chairman of the party.
Imtiaz previously held the chairmanship but stepped down from the post following the outcome of the last general election. In a bid to restore his involvement and strengthen the party’s leadership, Premadasa reappointed him to the position in recent weeks.
However, party insiders now confirm that Baqir Marker has not accepted the reappointment and is unlikely to do so. His continued silence and refusal to formally take up the role have been interpreted as a clear signal of his decision to stay out of frontline party leadership.
The reasons for his decision remain undisclosed, but it marks a notable development within the internal dynamics of the SJB, as the party prepares for upcoming political challenges.
