
Colombo – May 30, 2025 — Prime Minister Dr. Harini Amarasuriya has called on Sri Lanka’s young professionals to take a more active role in shaping the nation’s future, emphasizing their importance in addressing matters of national significance.
Speaking at the 50th anniversary celebration of the Sri Lanka Association of Professional Scholars held at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall, Dr. Amarasuriya highlighted the critical role of professionals in driving sustainable development. The event also included the recognition of senior members of the association and the launch of a commemorative 50th anniversary postage stamp.
The Prime Minister praised the Organisation of Professionals of Sri Lanka (OPA) for its decades-long effort to unite expertise across disciplines. Representing 34 professions and 52 member associations, OPA brings together nearly 60,000 professionals. Dr. Amarasuriya noted that the organization serves as a vital platform for advancing national development through collaboration, ethical standards, and technical excellence.
“Professionals in engineering, medicine, law, and urban planning are not just experts in their fields—they are vital contributors to Sri Lanka’s long-term growth,” she stated. “As the country undergoes transformation, organizations like OPA must lead discussions and generate innovative ideas.”
She reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the Young Professionals Forum and fostering a culture of mentorship and collective leadership among the next generation.
The event was graced by Supreme Court Justice Sobitha Rajakaruna, former Speaker Karu Jayasuriya, OPA President Attorney-at-Law Sujeewa Lal Dahanayake, Secretary General Thisara de Silva, and a distinguished gathering of professionals from across the country.
