President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, currently on an official visit to Germany, met this morning (13) with key representatives of German tourism associations and outbound travel operators at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Berlin, where he invited them to tap into Sri Lanka’s growing tourism sector.
During the meeting, the President outlined the Sri Lankan government’s commitment to sustainable tourism, emphasizing ongoing infrastructure development, enhanced safety protocols, and global promotional efforts positioning the island as a top-tier travel destination.
He highlighted Sri Lanka’s focus on cultural and eco-tourism, human resource development in the hospitality sector, and environmental protection all part of a broader strategy to balance tourism growth with heritage conservation.
President Dissanayake extended an open invitation to German investors to explore opportunities in Sri Lanka’s tourism industry, noting that the country is ripe for tourism-related ventures across hospitality, adventure, and wellness travel.
Germany is currently Sri Lanka’s fourth-largest tourism source market. In 2024, over 136,000 German visitors arrived, with nearly 70,000 recorded by the end of May alone underscoring the strong demand and potential for future expansion.
Minister of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Employment and Tourism, Vijitha Herath, and Sri Lanka’s Ambassador to Germany, Ms. Varuni Muthukumarana, were among the officials who joined the meeting.
