In a bold statement, Vladimir Putin defends Iran’s right to nuclear energy for peaceful purposes amid escalating Israel-Iran strikes. Russia calls for diplomacy, not war, as U.S. and Israeli warnings intensify.
Putin: Iran Has the Right to Nuclear Technology for Peaceful Use
Russian President Vladimir Putin has defended Iran’s right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes, asserting Moscow’s continued support in the sector. In an interview with Sky News, Putin stated, “We believe that Iran has the right to use nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. As in the past, we are ready to provide the necessary assistance in this area.”
While backing Iran’s civilian nuclear rights, Putin also stressed that Russia remains firmly against the spread of nuclear weapons.
His comments come in the wake of escalating tensions in the Middle East. Last week, Israel launched a series of strikes targeting Iranian assets, warning that Tehran was rapidly advancing toward nuclear weapons capability. Israel cited the strikes as necessary to stop what it called a looming nuclear threat.
Iran denied the accusations and maintained that its nuclear program is solely for civilian use. In retaliation, Iran responded with missile and drone attacks on Israeli territory.
Putin called for de-escalation through diplomatic means, saying Russia had repeatedly assured Israel that there is no concrete evidence Tehran is attempting to build nuclear weapons.
Meanwhile, U.S. intelligence agencies have reported no verified signs that Iran is currently pursuing a nuclear arsenal. However, former President Donald Trump claimed Iran was “very close” to acquiring nuclear weapons at the time of the Israeli airstrikes. Trump demanded Iran’s “unconditional surrender” and warned of potential U.S. intervention if the situation deteriorated.
As the world watches closely, the geopolitical stakes in the Middle East remain dangerously high.
