Ravi Karunanayake criticizes the National People’s Power (NPP) and opposition leaders for political hypocrisy and missed opportunities. He claims their overconfidence after the local government elections and contradictory alliances cost them control of key local bodies.
Opposition MP Ravi Karunanayake has launched a scathing critique of the National People’s Power (NPP) and the wider opposition, accusing them of losing political ground due to arrogance and contradiction.
Speaking at a press conference, Karunanayake pointed to the failure of the opposition to secure majority power in local government institutions. He claimed this was a result of overestimating the impact of the local government election results and failing to engage in timely, strategic negotiations.
“If they had followed the right path and opened proper dialogue, they could have gained power in many local bodies,” he said.
He went on to highlight a stark contrast in the NPP’s political behavior. “At first, the JVP and NPP said they wouldn’t shake hands with anyone. Now, there isn’t a party left they haven’t shaken hands with,” he remarked. “They’ve returned to their usual politics, abandoning their bold rhetoric from the election stage.”
Karunanayake also noted that the opposition made legal missteps in their attempts to claim local authority control and that his party would respond legally.
He concluded by saying that the opposition’s strategic failure was self-inflicted. “This is what happens when you operate based on assumptions and political fantasies instead of real-world unity and planning.”
He will soon shake hand with many of his caliber like former health minister s in a University they deserve entrance. He will be welcome to address the welikada uni since he is the so called best Finance Minister after Ronnie and economist after Sir Kynes.
