COPF testimony videos on missing Finance Ministry funds must be released, Sajith Premadasa says, warning of serious transparency concerns.
COPF testimony videos linked to missing Ministry of Finance funds must be released immediately, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa has challenged the government.
Premadasa called on the administration to make public the evidence submitted by the Finance Secretary before the Committee on Public Finance regarding the alleged disappearance of $250,000 from the Ministry of Finance, together with the relevant video footage.
The Opposition Leader said the current government has failed even to protect money held in the Treasury.
He further revealed that, in addition to the $250,000 allegedly missing from the Ministry of Finance, another $600,000 has reportedly gone missing from the Postal Department.
Premadasa alleged that the government is withholding information from the Committee on Public Finance in order to cover up its own failures.
He also warned that local industrialists would face serious harm due to the removal of cess and other taxes from 2026 to 2029 under agreements reached with the International Monetary Fund.
The Opposition Leader further emphasized that the Polish government is preparing to raise concerns with the European Union over the passport issue, and said the matter must be addressed immediately at diplomatic level.
Premadasa added that the government’s refusal to publish COPF records has created serious doubts about its commitment to transparency and public accountability.
