Kapila Chandrasena death probe hears Aravinda de Silva’s house CCTV was working, but no footage had been recorded for a long time.
Kapila Chandrasena death investigations took a fresh turn today (14) after the Colombo Crimes Division informed court that the CCTV system at Aravinda de Silva’s house was operational, but footage had not been recorded.
The suspicious death of former SriLankan Airlines CEO Kapila Chandrasena was taken up before Colombo Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasena, where the Magistrate’s evidentiary hearing continued with six witnesses giving evidence.
Submitting a further report, the Colombo Crimes Division told court that another house belonging to the deceased Kapila Chandrasena had been searched under a warrant obtained on May 12.
A laptop computer and several documents recovered from that house were also produced before court today as case exhibits.
The Magistrate then questioned investigating officers on whether CCTV footage from the scene of the death had been taken into police custody.
In response, the officer stated that although the CCTV camera system at Mr. Aravinda de Silva’s house was functioning, no footage had been recorded there for a long period.
However, investigators further informed court that CCTV footage from nearby houses covering the entrance and exit routes to the relevant property had now been taken into police custody.
CCTV Hard Disk removed either before or after the crime was perpetrated. Close analysis of the DVR will reveal if a Hard Disk was ever fitted or not, if so Arvinda’s involvement is further solidified.
