President Secretary office faces uncertainty as sources differ on whether Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumamayake was asked to resign or stepped aside.
President Secretary office developments have triggered fresh uncertainty in Sri Lanka, with conflicting accounts emerging over a senior official’s reported resignation.
A senior official serving in the President Secretary’s office has reportedly been asked to step down, according to multiple unnamed government sources.
However, differing versions have emerged over how the decision unfolded.
Some sources claim the official was instructed to tender his resignation, while others say he had already indicated a willingness to step aside due to personal reasons.
No formal public statement has yet been issued confirming either version.
Unnamed officials familiar with internal discussions said the situation remains unsettled.
One source stated that “a request was made for him to resign,” while another said there were indications that he “may have expressed his intention to resign due to personal matters.”
The contradictory accounts have created uncertainty within administrative circles.
That uncertainty has grown further because no official clarification has been issued by the Presidency regarding the reported development.
The official identified in the reports is Dr. Nandika Sanath Kumamayake.
He is a senior administrative officer who entered government service in 1997 as an Assistant Superintendent of Sri Lanka Customs.
Dr. Kumamayake studied at Rahula College in Matara before obtaining a first-class BSc degree from the University of Kelaniya.
He later completed advanced studies in Japan under World Customs Organization and government scholarships.
He also earned postgraduate qualifications and a PhD in Development Economics from the National Graduate Institute for Policy Studies in Tokyo.
Dr. Kumamayake has worked extensively on customs governance and integrity systems.
He has also been involved in international programmes under the World Customs Organization, focusing on anti-corruption and the modernization of customs administration.
According to reports from Lanka Lokaya and other unnamed sources, discussions are now underway regarding a possible reassignment of the official to a senior diplomatic post.
Reports also suggest that an internal candidate from within the same administrative structure is expected to be appointed as his successor.
Another senior official, also speaking on condition of anonymity, said continuity arrangements are being prepared within the office.
The reports come amid wider speculation over administrative restructuring at senior levels of government.
However, the exact circumstances surrounding the reported change at the President Secretary’s office have not yet been officially confirmed.
Until an official statement is issued, questions will continue over whether the move was part of a broader reshuffle, a voluntary resignation, or an internal decision connected to personal reasons.
