Shashi Weerawansa’s appeal was rejected by Colombo High Court, upholding her prison sentence and fine over a false passport case.
Shashi Weerawansa’s appeal petition was rejected today (11) by the Colombo High Court, upholding the prison sentence and fine imposed on her over the offence of possessing a passport containing false information.
Delivering the verdict, Colombo High Court Judge Manjula Tilakaratne stated that the earlier decision delivered by the Colombo Magistrate’s Court against the accused, who had claimed ownership of the incident, would be affirmed without any amendment.
In 2022, the Colombo Magistrate’s Court found Shashi Weerawansa guilty of using an irregularly prepared passport and sentenced her to two years of rigorous imprisonment, along with a fine of Rs. 100,000.
She had filed the appeal before the Colombo High Court seeking to be acquitted from the prison sentence and fine imposed by the Magistrate’s Court, and to have that ruling set aside.
