Suresh Sallay’s deteriorating health has prompted the Global Sri Lankan Forum to seek urgent presidential intervention and due process.
Suresh Sallay has become the focus of an urgent humanitarian appeal after the Global Sri Lankan Forum called on the President to intervene over concerns about his health, detention conditions, and legal rights.
The Global Sri Lankan Forum (GSLF) has requested immediate presidential intervention regarding the rapidly deteriorating health condition of retired Major General Suresh Sallay, the former Director of the State Intelligence Service (SIS).
In a letter addressed to the President, the Forum urged that all investigations relating to Major General Sallay be expedited through a transparent judicial process rather than allowing him to remain under prolonged administrative detention.
The GSLF also emphasized the need for urgent attention to be given to his current conditions of detention as well as his declining physical health.
The Global Sri Lankan Forum specifically highlighted Major General Sallay’s decades of service to the nation as a senior military officer who played a role in safeguarding Sri Lanka’s sovereignty and national security.
According to the organization, his long record of service should be taken into consideration while ensuring that legal processes are conducted fairly, transparently, and without unnecessary delay.
The Forum further stated that no individual should be subjected to prolonged detention without formal charges being filed against them.
It stressed that due process and the principles of justice require that investigations be carried out within a reasonable timeframe and through established judicial mechanisms.
The GSLF also noted that Major General Sallay is currently being detained under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA).
In its letter, the organization warned that if any unfortunate incident or serious health complication were to occur during his detention, responsibility would inevitably rest with the President’s Office as the authority that issued the detention order.
The Forum argued that the concerns surrounding his health condition make the matter one of both legal and humanitarian significance.
The Global Sri Lankan Forum therefore strongly urged the President to ensure that Major General Sallay receives unrestricted access to the highest level of medical treatment available.
It further called for strict measures to be implemented to safeguard his personal security while he remains in custody.
The organization reiterated that humanitarian considerations, access to healthcare, personal safety, and the timely administration of justice should remain central to the handling of the matter moving forward.
