Issuing a special media statement, SJB General Secretary and Parliamentarian Ranjith Madduma Bandara said the party had suspended Abeysinghe’s membership along with every position he held within the Samagi Jana Balawegaya.
Madduma Bandara further clarified that Charith Abeysinghe was not a member of the SJB, nor did he serve as an organizer or hold any official position within the party in 2023, when the alleged bribery incident is said to have taken place.
The General Secretary also stressed that the Samagi Jana Balawegaya has never opposed the enforcement of the law or legal action against individuals accused of corruption or any other unlawful activity.
He added that the party firmly believes the law must be applied equally to everyone, regardless of status or position, and reaffirmed the SJB’s commitment to supporting due legal process while maintaining accountability within the party.
