Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe said on Thursday that the country would stand firm against any threats in the Red Sea adding the Indian Ocean island-nation was committed in protecting its rights in the region.
He added that Sri Lanka will also work to provide the necessary support to the United Nations whenever there are problems with peace in the region and the world.
He was speaking at a Sri Lankan Air Force Cadet Officers Commissioning Ceremony held on Thursday at the Air Force Base China Bay in Trincomalee.
Highlighting Sri Lanka’s historical commitment to safeguarding world peace and regional stability, the President stressed on his readiness to make decisive decisions for global peace. He underscored the responsibility and accountability of the armed forces in achieving this objective.
Sri Lanka has already pledged to send a battle vessel to the Red Sea to support an international coalition guarding commercial vessels from attacks from Iran-backed Houti rebels operating in most parts of Yemen.
