Namal Rajapaksa criticism targets the Government over taxes, IMF policies, cyber incidents and what he calls political revenge against his family.
Namal Rajapaksa criticism of the Government intensified as the SLPP parliamentarian accused it of blaming his family for every national crisis while claiming credit for development projects completed during the Rajapaksa era.
Addressing a public gathering, Rajapaksa alleged that political opponents had spent years trying to target his family through false evidence and other forms of pressure.
He argued that the Government readily associates the Rajapaksas with negative events but refuses to acknowledge their role in major national achievements.
“If anyone in the country takes their own life today, the government tries to blame the Rajapaksas. But when it comes to the war that Mahinda Rajapaksa ended, the expressways he built, and massive projects like the Port City, this government says there are many people who can claim credit for them,” he said.
“There are many owners for the good things, but the Rajapaksas are at fault for everything bad,” the MP added.
Rajapaksa also claimed that some groups were trying to connect him to hacking incidents involving the Central Bank and the Ministry of Finance, where money was allegedly stolen.
He described attempts to associate him with those incidents as ridiculous. However, he did not identify the groups making the alleged claims.
Turning to the economy, Rajapaksa accused the Government of placing heavy taxes on the public to satisfy International Monetary Fund requirements.
“On one hand, newspapers say 75% are satisfied with the President’s program. But in the same newspaper, tucked away at the bottom, it says half the country is starving. How does that add up?” he questioned.
The SLPP parliamentarian further alleged that the Government was pursuing political revenge by imprisoning military personnel and intelligence officers who contributed to ending the war.
He also claimed that officials accused of concealing files connected to the Easter Sunday attacks now hold senior positions in the current administration.
Instead of identifying and prosecuting those truly responsible, Rajapaksa alleged that the Government was engaging in political theatre.
The latest Namal Rajapaksa criticism reflects the SLPP’s broader effort to defend the former ruling family’s record while challenging the Government’s economic policies, investigations and public narrative.
