The Chamika Karunaratne DNA test request filed in the Colombo District Court was rejected today, August 4, after the court found insufficient grounds to grant it.
The application sought an order requiring cricketer Chamika Karunaratne to provide blood samples for DNA testing.
Female pilot Rasika Sewwandi made the request through a complaint asking the court to direct the Registrar General to issue a birth certificate naming Karunaratne as the father of her child.
When delivering the order, the court said the petitioner had not presented sufficient grounds to obtain the requested relief.

Therefore, the court rejected the application.
However, the court ordered officials to recall the complaint on October 9 for further proceedings.
The case names Chamika Karunaratne, the child identified as Aryan Karunaratne, and the Registrar General among the respondents.
Sewwandi claims that her minor child, Aryan Karunaratne, was born on September 29, 2025, and that Chamika Karunaratne is the child’s father.
She also claims that Karunaratne had a close relationship with her in or around 2023 and persuaded her to engage in sexual relations.
According to her complaint, he later attempted to avoid her after she became pregnant. She further alleges that he refused to acknowledge paternity of the child.
Sewwandi has asked the court to issue a declaration naming Chamika Karunaratne as the child’s father.
She has also requested an order directing the Registrar General to issue a birth certificate identifying him as the father.
In addition, she sought the Chamika Karunaratne DNA test order requiring both the cricketer and the child to undergo testing.
Although the court rejected that request at this stage, the complaint remains before the Colombo District Court. The matter is due to return on October 9 for further proceedings.
