Tilvin Silva, General Secretary of the Janata Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), has highlighted the need for parliamentary support to carry out substantial reforms, even if the presidency is secured. Speaking at a National People’s Force event, Silva stated that while the party aims to raise public sector salaries, reduce taxes, and provide financial relief to struggling citizens, such changes would require a majority in Parliament to be implemented effectively.
“Without parliamentary power, we cannot make these critical changes,” Silva remarked, emphasizing the importance of securing both legislative and executive power. He added that adjusting income tax thresholds to ease the financial burden on citizens would also depend on having control in Parliament. Silva’s statements underscore the JVP’s focus on achieving cohesive governance to deliver on its commitments.
