Ms. Kushani Rohanadeera, Secretary General of Parliament, has announced plans to conduct the opening ceremony of the 10th Parliament in an exceptionally elegant manner. The first session is set to commence on November 21, presided over by President Anura Kumara Dissanayake.
Speaking on the preparations, Rohanadeera emphasized maintaining tradition while elevating the ceremonial aspects. She highlighted key elements of the program:
- Traditional Salutes: The opening will include the singing of the Jayamangala Gatha, accompanied by ceremonial salutes from the three armed forces.
- Presidential Protocol: The President will proceed directly to a designated dressing room upon arrival. After a brief period, the parliamentary division bell will signal his formal entry into the chamber.
- Policy Address: The President will deliver his inaugural policy statement while seated in the official chair, as per parliamentary tradition.
This approach aims to uphold the dignity of the event while reflecting the grandeur befitting the 10th Parliament’s historic session.
