Sri Lankan spin sensations Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana have been acquired by Rajasthan Royals (RR) during the 2025 IPL mega auction held in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Hasaranga, renowned for his game-changing leg-spin and lower-order hitting, was signed for ₹5.25 crore. The all-rounder has been a standout performer in international T20 cricket, boasting 287 wickets in 200 matches at an average of 16.65 and a remarkable economy rate of 6.90. With the bat, he has amassed 2,314 runs at a strike rate of 145.16, including nine half-centuries.
Meanwhile, Maheesh Theekshana, the skillful off-spinner, secured a ₹4.40 crore deal with RR. Having represented Chennai Super Kings in three IPL seasons (2022-2024), Theekshana has taken 25 wickets in 27 matches. He adds value to RR with his ability to deliver under pressure in powerplay and middle overs.
Hasaranga’s IPL Journey
Hasaranga, who was previously with Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in 2024 after a ₹1.5 crore signing, missed the last season due to injury. Before that, he was part of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), where he was their highest wicket-taker in IPL 2022, scalping 26 wickets at an average of 16.54.
Theekshana’s IPL Contribution
Known for his consistency and sharp variations, Theekshana’s IPL career includes standout performances for CSK, with a four-wicket haul as his best. His ability to complement Hasaranga promises a formidable spin partnership for the Rajasthan Royals.
A Strategic Duo for RR
With both spinners now part of the Rajasthan Royals’ setup, they bring immense depth to the franchise’s bowling arsenal. The addition of these two proven performers further strengthens RR’s chances in the upcoming season.
