The Sri Lankan women’s U-19 cricket team began their campaign in the Under-19 Asia Cup Women’s T20 tournament on a high note, securing a convincing 94-run victory over Malaysia in the opening match held today in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat, posting a total of 153/4 in their 20 overs. The highlight of the innings was a superb partnership of 109 runs between Limansa Tillakaratne and captain Manudi Nanayakkara for the fifth wicket. Tillakaratne remained not out on 41, while Nanayakkara played a standout innings, finishing on 74* from just 40 balls.
In reply, Malaysia’s chase was derailed by strong Sri Lankan bowling, as the hosts could only manage 59/6 after their allotted 20 overs. Hiruni Hansika was the standout bowler for Sri Lanka, taking 2 wickets for just 2 runs.
Sri Lanka’s U-19 team will next face Bangladesh’s U-19 team tomorrow, with the match scheduled to start at 7 AM local time.
