Intelligence agencies have uncovered a chilling plan by underworld gangs, both operating within Sri Lanka and overseas, to carry out 19 murders across the country in the coming days. A confidential report detailing these plans has been handed over to the Acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Priyantha Weerasuriya, sparking immediate action from law enforcement.
The report reveals the identity of the targeted individuals and the underworld factions orchestrating the murders. Among the assassination targets is the brother of a chairman from an organization who had previously exposed underworld operations to the media. This marks a troubling escalation of the violence and retribution being carried out by these criminal groups.
Acting IGP Weerasuriya has swiftly acted on the intelligence by instructing the Senior Deputy Inspectors General (DIGs) responsible for the Western, Southern, and North Central provinces to intensify efforts to prevent these planned killings. These regions have been identified as hotspots where the assassinations are likely to occur, and authorities are deploying additional resources to ensure public safety and thwart the criminal activity.
The intelligence report names several prominent underworld figures believed to be involved in organizing the murders. These include high-ranking criminals like Kanjipani Imran, Kudulal, Ahungalle Loku Patty, Kosgoda Suji, and several others linked to violent gang operations. The assassinations are reportedly connected to ongoing power struggles within the underworld, specifically disputes over control of the lucrative drug trade and territorial dominance.
Internal rivalries within these criminal networks have led to growing tensions, and the violence is seen as a result of disagreements over drug distribution, money laundering, and the shifting balance of power among underworld leaders. Individuals such as Karandeniya Sudda, Mattakukliya Roshan, Rathgama Vidura, Franceye Ananda, Badowita Asanka, and Ganemulla Sanjeewa are believed to be key players in the plot, with their conflicts escalating into deadly confrontations.
Furthermore, the report warns that some of these gangs are being influenced by external international criminal organizations, adding another layer of complexity to the situation. These groups have been using foreign connections to expand their reach and exert greater influence over Sri Lanka’s criminal underworld.
In response to the intelligence, the police have placed key targets under protection, and intelligence gathering has been intensified to prevent these killings. The police force is working closely with other agencies to monitor the movements of suspected criminals and ensure that the planned attacks are stopped before they can be carried out.
Sri Lanka’s law enforcement agencies are bracing for potential retaliation and an escalation of violence as these underworld factions vie for control. Despite the heightened risks, authorities remain committed to dismantling these criminal organizations and restoring order to affected areas. The situation remains fluid, and further developments are expected as the police continue their investigations.
