The Chairman of the All Ceylon Health Service Association’s Medical Supply Institute has expressed deep frustration over the lack of dialogue with the current government regarding pressing issues faced by health workers. He claimed that his association played a pivotal role in helping the government secure power but now finds itself ignored.
Speaking to the media, the Chairman accused the Health Minister of neglecting the concerns of the association and its employees. He revealed that the Minister, who once engaged in lengthy phone discussions with him, now refuses to even answer his calls.
“We went to the market with a compass in hand, campaigning hard to bring this government to power,” he remarked, using a metaphor to highlight their dedication. “Now, there’s no platform for us to discuss the problems we are facing. The Minister, who once had time for us, has gone silent.”
Despite his dissatisfaction, the Chairman clarified that he has no intention of causing trouble for the government. However, he emphasized that the Minister must allocate time to address the grievances of health workers and work toward viable solutions.
The Health Service Association’s complaints reflect broader dissatisfaction among public sector employees, who often feel overlooked despite their contributions to political campaigns. Whether the government will respond to these concerns remains to be seen.
