Sri Lanka has unveiled its squad for the ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup, set to take place in Malaysia from January 18 to February 2. The team will be led by Manudi Nanayakkara of Princess of Wales College, Moratuwa, with Rashmika Sewwandi from Anura College, Matara, serving as vice-captain.
The 15-member squad includes several players from Devapathiraja College, Rathgama, highlighting the school’s strong contribution to Sri Lankan women’s cricket. The players from Devapathiraja include Hiruni Hansika, Sumudu Nisansa, Rashmi Nethranjali, Sashini Gimhani, Sanjana Kavindi, and Shehara Induwari.
Adding to the excitement, the team features Limansa Thilakaratne, daughter of former Sri Lankan cricketer T.M. Dilshan. Other notable players include Vimoksha Balasuriya (Sinhala Maha Vidyalaya, Trincomalee), Dahmi Sanutma (Anula Vidyalaya, Nugegoda), Asheni Thalagune (Mahamaya Balika Vidyalaya, Kandy), Pramudi Methsara (Uhana Central Vidyalaya, Ampara), Chamodi Prabodha (Pragnananda Maha Vidyalaya, Monaragala), and Danuli Tennakoon (Maliyadeva Balika Vidyalaya, Kurunegala). Nethangi Isuranjali has been named as an additional player.
Sri Lanka is placed in Group A alongside India, West Indies, and Malaysia. Their group-stage matches will take place in Selangor, with Sri Lanka facing defending champions India on the second day of the tournament.
The competition will span 41 matches across four venues in Malaysia, featuring 16 teams. Originally, Thailand was set to co-host the event, but Malaysia is now hosting all matches due to Thailand’s withdrawal.
The tournament will kick off with six matches on the opening day. Following the group stage, the top three teams from each group will progress to the Super Six stage, vying for spots in the semi-finals. The final match is scheduled for February 2, concluding the second edition of the tournament.
