Sri Lanka is poised to finalize key agreements on fuel and gas imports, power and energy projects, and trade and investment during President Anura Kumara Dissanayake’s official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from February 10 to 13.
Foreign Minister Vijitha Herath revealed that a significant highlight of the visit will be the establishment of a joint commission between Sri Lanka and the UAE, aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation. Cabinet approval for this initiative is expected in the coming week.
The visit will also see agreements signed on employment opportunities, tourism, and education promotion, as both nations look to expand their partnership across multiple sectors. According to Minister Herath, discussions will focus on securing fuel and gas imports under favorable terms for Sri Lanka, a crucial step in stabilizing the country’s energy sector.
Sri Lanka also plans to boost tea and gem exports by attracting more tourists from the UAE while exploring new investment opportunities. In addition to a bilateral meeting with the President of the UAE, President Dissanayake is scheduled to engage with business leaders to encourage investment flows into Sri Lanka.
With over 350,000 Sri Lankans employed in Dubai, the President will also meet with the Sri Lankan community, reinforcing ties with expatriates and addressing their concerns. The visit is expected to mark a new chapter in economic cooperation between the two countries.
