Pivithuru Hela Urumaya’s senior lawyer Udaya Gammanpila has alleged that the government is attempting to protect individuals responsible for the Easter Sunday attacks, claiming that some of them are currently part of the ruling administration.
Speaking at a media briefing held at the Pivithuru Hela Urumaya party office on February 3, Gammanpila stated that after failing to falsely implicate Sri Lanka’s intelligence agencies, including former intelligence chief Major General Suresh Saleh, the government is now developing a new fabricated narrative.
According to Gammanpila, this new strategy involves first arresting Major General Suresh Saleh and then moving forward with a plan to arrest former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa. He accused the government of manipulating the Easter Sunday investigation to shift attention away from the real masterminds behind the attack.
He further alleged that the current administration gained power by promising to arrest those responsible for the Easter Sunday attacks, yet instead of delivering justice, they are protecting those truly involved by framing others.
His remarks come amid ongoing political debates and legal proceedings surrounding the 2019 Easter Sunday bombings, an issue that remains highly sensitive and controversial in Sri Lanka’s political landscape.
