Janasetha Peramuna leader Battaramulla Seelarathna Thero has strongly criticized the government for its handling of the recent power outages, stating that if such an incident had occurred in a foreign country, the responsible minister would have resigned immediately.
Speaking at a media conference held on February 13, Seelarathna Thero accused the government of failing to take responsibility for the nationwide power failures and questioned the competency of those in charge. He expressed frustration over Sri Lanka’s political leadership, claiming that despite 77 years of independence, the country’s energy sector is now being run by unqualified individuals, whom he mockingly referred to as “monkeys and toque macaques”.
He further stated that political leaders had come into power promising national progress and self-sufficiency, but instead, the entire nation is now experiencing widespread power cuts with no accountability. According to Seelarathna Thero, government officials are downplaying the crisis, making excuses by blaming previous administrations, and refusing to resign from their posts, even though such an expectation would be standard practice in other countries.
He accused both the past and present governments of failing to prioritize the welfare of the people, stating that the political leadership continues to operate without real consequences, leaving citizens to suffer the repercussions of poor governance.
Does this opinionated idiot know himself how to run a national electricity power grid?
