The Petroleum Dealers Association has announced that it will cease all fuel ordering activities from midnight tonight, raising concerns about potential fuel shortages.
The association confirmed that while existing fuel stocks will continue to be distributed, no new orders will be placed.
This decision comes in response to the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation’s (CPC) move to abolish the 3% discount currently provided to fuel distributors. Instead, CPC has introduced a new payment formula effective tomorrow (01).
According to CPC Chairman D.J. Rajakaruna, the revised payment system aligns with a March 2022 circular, and the previous discounted payments were deemed illegal.
At a media briefing this afternoon, the Petroleum Dealers Association reiterated its stance, confirming that it will halt all fuel stock orders until further notice.
This is all very well, but how are they going to do their business with no supplies. They too will lose out if they have nothing to sell. The SL Government should face them down.
