Colombo, Sri Lanka – Adani Green Energy Sri Lanka Limited has expressed its willingness to restart the Mannar wind farm project if the Sri Lankan government adheres to the initial approvals granted for the initiative.
In a communication to the Ministry of Energy, the company stated that it had considered withdrawing from the renewable energy and transmission network expansion projects after two years of prolonged discussions without clear government approval. However, they are now prepared to proceed if the prior agreements are honored.
Adani officials highlighted that they had been awaiting a definitive stance from the new government before making their decision to step away from the project. They reiterated their commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s renewable energy sector and expressed readiness to undertake this or other development projects in the country.
Energy Minister Kumara Jayakody, speaking at the Ministerial Consultative Committee on Energy in Parliament, confirmed that the Mannar Wind Farm project has not yet been canceled. He further stated that Adani Green Energy Sri Lanka Limited has been given two weeks to officially communicate its decision regarding the project’s continuation.
The outcome of this decision could have significant implications for Sri Lanka’s renewable energy goals and foreign investment climate.
