MP Chandana Suriyaarachchi of the National People’s Power Party (NPP) stated that no NPP Member of Parliament receives a parliamentary salary.
Speaking during the “Wadapitiya” program on Derana TV, Suriyaarachchi explained that all MPs from his party deposit their salaries into the party’s common fund. He added that members receive a modest allowance from that fund only when necessary.
However, opposition MPs quickly responded, pointing out that NPP MPs are still utilizing public tax money, not in the form of salaries but as allowances or through other means.
This comment escalated the debate, making the discussion increasingly heated and intense.
