Police: Malaysia Did Not Arrest Kehelbaddara Padme or Commando Salintha, Focus Is on Another Group
In a clarification that follows widespread speculation, Sri Lanka Police have confirmed that there is no official confirmation of the arrests of notorious underworld figures Kehelbaddara Padme and Commando Salintha in Malaysia.
According to Police Media Spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police F.U. Wutler, no diplomatic or law enforcement-level confirmation has been received regarding the presence or arrest of these two high-profile criminals in Malaysia.
Speaking at a special media briefing held at the Police Media Division today, ASP Wutler emphasized that Sri Lankan authorities have only been notified about 26 Sri Lankans who were recently arrested in Malaysia over various offences. However, he stressed that the names of Kehelbaddara Padme and Commando Salintha are not among those identified in the reports received.
In light of this development, the Sri Lankan Police have dispatched multiple teams of officers to Malaysia and Thailand to assist in the ongoing investigations and to gather more information about the arrested individuals.
The spokesperson stated that it is now up to the Malaysian authorities to decide whether the 26 Sri Lankans will be deported or if they will remain in custody for further legal proceedings and investigations.
The statement by ASP Wutler aims to dispel rumors that had begun circulating online and in some media circles suggesting the capture of major Sri Lankan crime figures. He reiterated that these reports are unfounded and that the official position remains focused on verifying the identities and offences of the 26 individuals currently in custody abroad.
With interest growing in the ongoing developments, law enforcement agencies in Sri Lanka remain vigilant and in communication with their Malaysian counterparts. The spokesperson concluded that accurate information will be released to the public as investigations progress.
