A senior municipal employee has come forward with explosive allegations, accusing the Moratuwa Mayor of demanding sexual favors and abusing official power, triggering complaints to multiple state authorities and raising urgent questions about accountability and workplace safety.
A Municipal Council employee has filed a formal complaint with the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption alleging that the Mayor of the Moratuwa Municipal Council demanded a sexual bribe and attempted to use his official authority to force compliance.
According to the complaint, the employee has also lodged statements with the Children and Women’s Bureau at the Moratuwa Police Station, as well as with the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka.
The complainant, who was engaged in office paperwork at the Municipal Council, states that she is deeply afraid, ashamed, and helpless following the alleged requests made by the Mayor. She claims the demands for sexual bribes continued repeatedly over a period of one and a half months.
The complaint further alleges that when she refused the advances, the Mayor became hostile and transferred her to a maternity clinic within his constituency. The employee asserts that this transfer was carried out by misusing mayoral powers and that no recommendation was obtained from the head of the Public Health Department, making the transfer irregular and punitive.
In her complaint, the employee has requested that an immediate investigation be launched into the alleged abuse of power and sexual harassment, and that justice be delivered without political interference.
The allegations have intensified scrutiny on governance, workplace harassment, and the protection of women employees within local government institutions.
