Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka accuses the Rajapaksa family of fostering a culture of political retaliation, insisting that the rule of law cannot be twisted to target fathers for the alleged crimes of their sons.
Former Army Commander Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka says Sri Lanka must uphold the rule of law and reject revenge politics. Speaking to the media, he argued there is no legal system anywhere in the world that arrests fathers because their sons are accused of terrorism. Referring to past conflicts, he noted that even after Velupillai Prabhakaran was killed, his parents were allowed to live freely. Fonseka questioned attempts to link Ibrahim to the alleged actions of his sons, stressing that individual accountability must prevail. If Ibrahim committed any wrongdoing as a citizen or war hero, he said, the law should take its course without bias. However, changing laws or targeting individuals for political retaliation undermines justice. He accused the Rajapaksas of creating a culture of vengeance against war heroes and distorting national security narratives.
