Harsha de Silva rejects government crossover rumours, saying he will not betray voters and will continue speaking for people in Parliament.
Harsha de Silva has rejected rumours that he is preparing to join the government, saying there is no truth whatsoever to the claims currently circulating in political circles.
The Samagi Jana Balawegaya Member of Parliament said he has always acted in a manner that protects the honour of the thousands of people who voted for him. He emphasized that he would not betray the trust placed in him by the public.
Commenting on his political position, Harsha de Silva said he continues to believe in a “new political” culture. He explained that this means recognizing good decisions as good, while criticizing wrong decisions as wrong, regardless of who is responsible.
According to the MP, some people have found it difficult to understand or accept this direct political approach. He said his willingness to speak fairly on issues has now been misinterpreted by certain groups.
Harsha de Silva further stated that, as Chairman of the Parliamentary Committee on Public Finance, he performs his duties in a way that protects the dignity and honour of that position.
He said some people have misunderstood this professional conduct and are using it to spread rumours that he is planning to join the government.
Although he said he feels some honour in the government expressing that they need him, Harsha de Silva stressed that he will never betray the people who elected him.
He urged the public not to be misled by false rumours and said he will continue to raise his voice for the people, both inside and outside Parliament.
