US Embassy denies reports that an FBI team arrived in Sri Lanka to investigate the alleged US$2.5 million Treasury transfer.
US Embassy officials have denied media reports claiming an FBI team arrived in Sri Lanka to investigate the missing Treasury dollars.
The Embassy stated that reports saying a team from the Federal Bureau of Investigation had arrived in the country to assist investigations into the transfer of US$2.5 million belonging to the Treasury to another party are false.
A spokesperson for the Embassy emphasized that no such team has been deployed.
The Embassy explained that, as standard practice in many countries, an FBI legal attaché is stationed to coordinate ongoing law enforcement cooperation when requested for investigations.
However, the US Embassy further stressed that accuracy is extremely important when reporting on sensitive investigative matters.
