Bimal Rathnayake questions whether Sri Lanka should be handed to Sajith, Namal or Dilith if the dollar rises again.
Dollar crisis fears were challenged by Minister Bimal Rathnayake, who questioned whether Sri Lanka should be handed to opposition figures if the rupee weakens.
The Minister asked whether, even if the dollar appreciates further, the governance of the country should be handed over to Sajith Premadasa, Namal Rajapaksa, or Dilith Jayaweera.
He made the remarks while addressing a public gathering.
Rathnayake said that when the dollar rose to Rs.325, Rs.335, Rs.345 and beyond during the recent period, certain groups had watched the situation with great interest.
However, he said that due to the government’s correct course of action, the value of the dollar has now fallen to Rs.334.
He also expressed confidence that the US$700 million expected from the International Monetary Fund will be received after the 27th of this month.
Following that, Rathnayake said, the value of the dollar is expected to decline further.
“Suppose the dollar goes to 375, what will you do? Will you hand over the country to Mr. Sajith Premadasa? To Mr. Namal Rajapaksa? To Dilith Jayaweera?” he questioned.
He also emphasized what he described as the difference between the previous situation and the change now taking place under the current administration.
