Kapila Perera resigns as Ministry Secretary after a Supreme Court ruling linked to a fundamental rights violation in his ministry.
Kapila Perera has stepped down as Secretary to the Ministry of Transport, Highways and Urban Development following a Supreme Court judgment delivered last week.
The resignation comes after the court ruling concerning the violation of the fundamental rights of a senior officer serving in the same ministry.
Professor Perera has informed the Ministry of Public Administration, Provincial Councils and Local Government of his decision to resign.
He has also taken steps to notify President Anura Kumara Dissanayake of his resignation.
After leaving the administrative post, Professor Perera is expected to return to university service in the future.
Professor Kapila Perera previously served as Vice-Chancellor of the University of Moratuwa.
He also served as Secretary to the Ministry of Education during the presidency of Gotabaya Rajapaksa.
